Marc Brickman William H. Johnson Inspired Blind Singer Art Print – Contemporary Canvas Wall Art
A Song Painted in Light
There is something profoundly moving about William H. Johnson's Blind Singer — a figure rendered in Johnson's signature bold, flat style, head tilted back, lost in music that only he can hear. It is a painting about inner vision: the idea that the most powerful sight is not always what the eyes can see. Marc Brickman's Blind Singer Canvas Art Print honors that spirit, translating Johnson's soulful imagery into a luminous light painting on the Empire State Building.
On May 1, 2015, Brickman — the acclaimed lighting designer whose work has graced the world's greatest stages — illuminated the ESB to celebrate the opening of the Whitney Museum of American Art. This 19"×28" full-color print captures that extraordinary evening, paying tribute to one of the most underappreciated masters of American modernism.

Johnson's Vision, Brickman's Light
William H. Johnson spent years in Europe absorbing the lessons of Expressionism and Fauvism before returning to America to paint the Black experience with a directness and dignity that was revolutionary for his time. His figures are simple but never simplistic — they carry entire worlds within their flat, colorful forms. Brickman's light show brings that same emotional weight to the ESB's steel and glass, creating a moment of unexpected tenderness in the heart of Manhattan.
Hang this print and let it sing. It will fill your space with soul, history, and the quiet power of art that refuses to be ignored.
